We’re taking a weekly look at something or some place we love in Nova Scotia! Follow along each week this summer as we celebrate well-known favourites and local hidden gems.
The moment we’ve been waiting for all summer is finally here. Chester Race Week kicks off today! Attracting sailors and yachts from all over Canada, the U.S. and even Europe, Chester Race Week is the largest keelboat regatta in Canada, and one heck of a party.
From today until Saturday, thousands will flock to Chester – a small, picturesque coastal town on the South Shore of Nova Scotia – to fill their boots with sailing, food and drink, amazing scenery, fun festivities and the good company of friendly Maritimers.
Serving up nightly entertainment at the Yacht Club, including live bands such as the Hopping Penguins and Party Boots, sailors are guaranteed to let loose after a day of racing, and non-sailors have just as much fun, too. For those staying onshore, activities take place throughout each day, with bagpiping, Art on the Deck, cocktail hour and several food vendors and trucks like the Halifax Oyster Festival, Lobster Jo’s and more.
And, for those who get carried away, there’s free coffee every morning, to get you back out on the water or exploring the quaint town of Chester’s many shops, restaurants and gorgeous scenery.
See you in Chester, folks!
