Social Media
Trampoline is a-Twitter
It’s amazing how much can be said in just 140 characters. Tweeters are spreading news and rumors across the globe in seconds with fewer syllables than it takes to form a sentence.
Founded in 2006, Twitter is a instant-messaging, blogging tool that asks members, “What are you doing?” Similar to adding Facebook friends to see status updates, Twitter allows users to “follow” others to get brief, yet frequent, updates.
By accessing the Internet from increasingly remote locations, via laptops, Blackberries and cellphones, these social networking tools are solidifying our station as an instant gratification culture.
The Globe and Mail reported earlier this week that even e-mail is becoming increasingly passé in light of emerging social networking sites, like Twitter. Micro-blogging via social networks is the fastest, most efficient way to reach the masses.
Now, instead of sending an internal office e-mail when we discover something we think is cool, we’ll now send a tweet and let all of our followers in on it.
Still confused? Watch this:
I see twitter as a perfect tool for retailers and restaurants to send updates on new product, sales and specials etc. to their interested customers. Beyond that it is a great way for brands to engage with and take the pulse of their market, i.e. “What do you think of this idea…?”
But, for true penetration in the Canadian there will need to be an revolution in the mobile industry to allow active mobile tweeting.
