Tip #4: Set a content schedule

If you suffer from social media distraction — and believe us, we know how time consuming it can be — set a consistent posting schedule and content plan. Not only will this benefit your time management, but it makes it easier for your audience as well.

A continued, yet unobtrusive, dialogue with your customers is ideal. Posting too often can result in link fatigue. When one username continually pops up on a feed, it becomes wallpaper to the reader. If you post too seldom, you’ll be forgotten.

Keep the content fresh, but focused on your business objectives. Incorporate interesting links, photos, videos and surveys in your content. Social media consumers are bombarded by content and will only take interest if you’re providing value-added information.

Social media isn’t one single entity, but a microcosm of sites, people and ideas. Don’t try to participate in every channel. Start by joining one or two sites that seem to make the most sense for your brand and target demographic. This will help determine how much time you or your employees should spend attending to social networking. Knowing the time commitment you’re investing will help to accurately measure success.

  1. I dropped the Halifax Fusion group from my Facebook because they send out a group email almost every other day. It got to be annoying. I love what they’re doing. I support what they’re doing. But I was tired of getting SPAMed.

  2. Agreed — I’ve unsubscribed from more than one e-mail/newsletter/group for that same reason. There’s got to be a value-added element to make it worth it.
