Tip #2: Commit, don’t campaign

Like most New Year’s resolutions, diving into the social media world can’t dry up by February first. Stagnant pages and stale information becomes wallpaper in a vibrant, ever-changing online landscape.

When you make the decision to embrace and take advantage of all that social media has to offer — and we really think you should — don’t abuse the privilege. This is your opportunity to talk to your customers and potential customers one-on-one, on their turf. Once you start, keep up the momentum. Blog, tweet, and post updates regularly to show your audience that you are alive and thriving. Engage them, but don’t mistake your Facebook fan page or your Twitter feed as a free, 24/7 billboard or print ad. You audience won’t respond to a constant blast of advertising. They’re looking to you for value-added content about your brand to remind them that you’re what they’re looking for.
