After earning her Applied Arts Diploma from the Illustration program at Sheridan College in Toronto, Jodie plied her trade at a number of different design studios and agencies in Toronto. Another one who saw the light and moved to Nova Scotia, she happily settled in Halifax for it’s small-town feel. Equally adept with pen and ink or point and click, her talent is evident in all facets of her work. Some of Jodie’s clients have included Eastlink, Saint Mary’s University and Pierceys. She’s recently started working one-on-one with some of her clients, giving her the opportunity to relate directly to their needs. In her spare time — though she’s not sure any of her time could be considered spare — Jodie is kept busy with her two young daughters and husband. Christmas 2009… the usual abundance of gifts, toys and tons of stuff that probably wouldn’t have fallen into the ‘need’ category of my family’s lives. I took a moment to reflect and realize as I looked around our home that we are a very lucky family. I decided that next year would be different.
Do my kids really need any more toys? Can we afford all the things that we buy? Do others necessarily like what we buy? I came to the conclusion that it would be nice to put a personal touch on our gifts this year by making and creating more than buying and charging. Now, don’t get me wrong – there are plenty of wonderful things out there that would be easy to just pick up and call it a day, but anyone who knows me knows that I like a challenge. It doesn’t matter if I have to stay up late completing my tasks and may be occasionally cranky from sleep deprivation – it’s all about the spirit of Christmas. [...]
